Spring Intensive Spanish Program Update -May 8, 2009
We have been continually monitoring the H1N1 situation and, while the safety of our students and faculty is always our top priority, we do not believe that current conditions warrant the closure of our current program. Universities in Mexico re-opened on May 7 following a mandatory 7-day closure, and public schools are scheduled to re-open on Monday, May 11.
The IUSI Program Coordinator returned today from a week in Querétaro to check in on our 15 Spring Intensive Spanish Students. She reports that the students are calm and that life is beginning to resume its normal pace with businesses reopening.
IUSI Summer Spanish
• All IUSI Summer Programs, including World to World Translation Workshop, in Querétaro are still scheduled to begin on time. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and notify all applicants and enrolled participants of any changes to their program status.
• IUSI recommends that students wait to book flights to Mexico for the summer, or purchase travel insurance if they wish to proceed with booking now.
Influenza Preventive Measures
• Inform your self about the H1N1 influenza.
• Notify the IUSI staff immediately if sick.
• Comply with suggestions by Mexican public health officials.
• Be alert to good health and sanitation practices, as follows:
• Do not go out if sick.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Cover your mouth or nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
Please contact IUSI with any additional questions or concerns.
